Hardware A computer is an electronic machine which can process information. Many different types of personal computers exist, including IBM-PCs, IBM-compatible PCs, and Macintoshes. However, even with all of the different types and sizes which exist, there are two things every computer requires to do work: hardware and software. We’re going to discuss the computer as a system, and define it piece by piece. This seems like the most sensible approach, since the first thing you encounter is the computer system itself. The equipment, the tangibles that you can see and touch, that, if you drop them, they break. Those things . . . they’re called hardware. This website will explain the different pieces of hardware that make up a computer system. But remember, the computer industry is the fastest moving industry that has ever existed. What’s cutting edge and trendy today is obsolete and outdated tomorrow. This website is updated frequently, the basics stay the same for awhile, but measurements, in terms of speeds, size, and capacity, change very quickly. Keeping that in mind, we’ll break hardware into three parts: Input Devices, the System Unit and Output Devices. Next to Input Devices |
